If you haven't already, make sure to sign up for virtual retreat using this google form! You'll have the option to reserve your very own retreat care package, complete with t-shirt. We have a mock-up design below, which we will update with the actual design once the shirts are recieved:
Virtual retreat will take place Friday, September 11th to Saturday, September 12th There will be a variety of events taking place over those two days, with the actual schedule below. Schedule can remain flexible if people have better ideas of things to do during actual retreat.
Virtual retreat will also take place entirely over zoom. Zoom links for various events will be updated on the agenda below when the time comes.
Events will be scheduled back to back, but no one is expected to be on Zoom 24/7. Breaks are scheduled and encouraged!
Here are the planned events for the weekend! While I want to keep the general time slots we use the same so people can plan their weekends accordingly, this document is not set in stone! If you have different ideas for events or how we can best accomodate you, feel free to reach out to me before the event and I'll make appropriate changes.
Make sure to take breaks; even though the events are listed back to back, you aren't expected to be Zooming 24/7.

All friday events will take place at night, and will be focussed torward traditional retreat party events. I put all the classic, main CalTTC retreat events here, so if you're going to take out any part of your weekend for retreat, have it be Friday! Some events may take longer or shorter than usual depending on how things go, but we will for the most part try to stick to the schedule to maintain some semblence of order.
You may want to eat dinner before starting your night with us, but feel free to eat during any of the events as well!
The first event of the night! We'll all say hi to each other, give introductions, and get the event kicked off. Could even be speeches from club leadership. Should be very wholesome, except for the shot we take at the end. If anything, please come to this as that's probably when we will take a group photo 😃.
No retreat is complete without rage cage. It's usually the most table-tennis related thing we do there. We will be using this website, which should be pretty fun!
Also a legendary retreat game, with some virtual twists! We will be using this website. Looks like it will be an amazing time.
For those who want to do something a little less intense. Here's some time to just chat, catch up, maybe study together, play some SET, eat bread. Normal retreat side activities. A pretty fun time.
This event is ESSENTIAL, especially for newcommmers. Get ready to learn a lot about your fellow club members, and maybe even yourself. If you're knew to this game, you're in for a treat, and if you've been here before, you'll know what to expect 😉.
We'll be breaking out into rooms for this activity so people can do what interests them, but expect very accessbile games like Jackbox and Skribbil all the way to hardcore stuff like LOL and CSGO. There should be something for everyone!
Movie time! We plan on watching Balls of Fury, a table tennis movie which I have not seen. Should be a fun time!
I expect most people to want to sleep by now, but I'm open to just chilling with people and maybe doing other things for fun. I am purposely not planning anything here to encourage people to sleep and save energy for tomorrow's activities!
Saturday events will be a lot more wholesome and chill in the beginning, and then regress into something similar to Friday night. This is the night we will also have games with prizes 👀, which should spice things up. Hopefully things start late enough for no one to oversleep 😃.
I used to make the joke that we are sort of all on our own retreat in different places. Now is the time to show off where you spending this retreat! You'll have the chance to show off your living arrangements, your pets and/or stuffed animals, maybe have some family members say hi, and anything else that could be exciting.
I'm allocating some time for everyone to eat lunch with family or together, whatever you prefer, and maybe do some productive things. I plan a study room during this time, but you can also use it to just relax and chill until later things.
Its always been common in retreat to try and visit a local attraction, but what does local mean now? Many museums, zoos, and other traditional places to explore have started offering virtual tours. Come take the unique opportunity to check out The Lourve, Smithsonian, and Cincinnati Zoo all in one day!
Time to load up the Chloe Ting's! This time will be allocated for us to get up and actually move around a bit, because it's easy to forget to do that when we sit on zoom all day. We can split into seperate rooms if people want to do a lot of different things, or coordinate one workout together. The possibilities are endless.
Similar to the early lunch time, you can use this time to eat with family or with your friends at CalTTC and do anything else. There will be another study/work room open to keep eachother on task, but feel free to do whatever you like!
We'll start out the second night of retreat with another large event that everyone can participate in. There will probably be a decent number of newcomers, so another round of introductions will be underway. We may try to organize some randomized breakout rooms during this time to help facilitate conversations and let people meet new people. We'll take another picture for Saturday, and also applaud everyone who has stayed for two nights so far!
If you missed out on rage cage yesterday, or just want to have another round (why wouldn't you?) then we plan to have another set of rage cage games going on
The rules are simple. One sip every minute. Normally this goes for an hour, but it might be a good idea to keep things a little toned down, or not, depending on how rage cage goes. Might serve as a fun happy half-hour too.
Maybe you had your fill or rage cage yesterday, or aren't too fond of our drinking games in general. Tooootaly fine. Here's a space for you to just hang out and take it easy for a bit. Maybe do some work, chat, watch a KDrama, anything you want.
If you missed yesterday's hot seat, we may do a partial rerun if people are interested, which I hope will happen! However, we will leave pleanty of time to play Paranoia a bit, which I think will work quite well over zoom 😉. Another great opporunity to learn more about your fellow club members!
Lightning talks have started to become a much enjoyed CalTTC social event. Essentially, you give a short 10-15 minute presentaiton on a topic that you prepared ahead of time. We'll be doing that again, but with a twist: you will get only five minutes to prepare a presentation on a randomly selected topic. We will be awarding a prize to the best presentation!
Split off into teams and answer questions from a variety of topics, covering table tennis, pop culture, Berkeley, CalTTC, and more! You'll be sure to learn a lot, and there will be prizes for the best team too! We will be administering the trivia through Kahoot as well, so you can get all that middle school/high school nostalgia.
Come join for an intense, low-mid stakes last man standing poker tournament. Only one buy-in; once you're out, you're out. In addition to winnings for first, second, and third place, there will be additional prizes for this game like the other events!
We'll see what everyone's favorite event of virtual retreat has been so far, and ... do it again! We can also just talk about our favorite memories from this or any retreat.
Same as before. Most people will probably want to sleep by now, but I'll be up for anything. Many memorable retreat moments happen via random conversations at late times, so I would actually try to make this one if you can! Time to go all out, because after this, no more retreat until next semester 😦. Feel free to sleep if you really do feel like enforcing a bed time though.
